
About the Role
The Human Resources Manager will lead and manage all HR functions, ensuring compliance with Malawian labour laws and best-practice HR standards. The role requires a highly experienced HR professional based in Zomba, with short-term travel to Zalewa as required. All travel arrangements will be organized by the company.
Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and oversee HR policies, procedures, and systems aligned with organisational objectives.
Ensure full compliance with Malawi labour legislation, employment standards, and statutory requirements.
Lead recruitment, selection, onboarding, and retention strategies for all staff levels.
Manage employee relations, including disciplinary processes, grievance handling, and performance management.
Oversee payroll processes, benefits administration, employment contracts, and HR records, ensuring compliance with PAYE, Pension, TEVET levy, and other applicable Malawi statutory obligations.
Provide strategic HR advice to senior management and line managers.
Promote a positive workplace culture, employee engagement, and wellbeing initiatives.
Prepare HR reports, workforce planning data, and compliance documentation.
Support site operations in Zalewa during short-term assignments, as required.
Requirements
Required Qualifications & Certified HR Skills
Professional HR qualification/certification is preferred, with priority given to candidates affiliated with the Institute of People Management Malawi (IPMM), the legally recognised professional body for HR practitioners in Malawi. CIPD, SHRM, or equivalent qualifications may also be considered.
Strong, demonstrable knowledge of:
Malawi labour laws and employment regulations
HR compliance and statutory reporting
Performance management systems
Employee relations and disciplinary procedures
Compensation, benefits, and payroll coordination
Training and organizational development
Experience Requirements
Candidate must have a strong working understanding of Malawian labor laws, including employment contracts, disciplinary procedures, termination processes, leave entitlements, and statutory compliance.
Minimum of 6–10 years’ progressive HR experience, with at least 3–5 years in a senior or managerial HR role.
